Good byes to some of the amazing creatives I met while at VCCA! Sad parting. I headed to Monticello—I’d never been, even as a student at the University of Virginia. They’ve incorporated the story of the Hemmingses and other enslaved people who built and managed the upkeep of Monticello and its residents. I bought Annette Gordon-Reed’s Pulitzer Prize winning book—“The Hemmingses of Monticello.” After a 2-hour tour I headed to UVA to see what has changed since my time as a student. There is now a memorial to the enslaved folx who built UVA. Lots of building going on too.
